Ramadan: Sunday, September 6, on Labor Day eve, Algerians from the Washington DC metro meet at Babylon Futbol Café before Iftar to watch the soccer game: Algeria versus Zambia.

Two hours before Iftar, many members of the Algerian American Community gathered to watch the soccer game of the Algerian National Soccer Team against Zambian team. The Algerian team, after a hard 90 minutes of restless physical struggle, finally scored a goal. The Algerian team gained the 3 points that put the tem ahead of Egypt in the group, but there still are two games left.

The members from the community from all ages showed a restless cheering to their team. Some expressed the difference of fasting Ramadan in the US as opposed to back home. Some feel that from the food side, everything is now available in the US. They are able to find Algerian goods in some stores. They motioned being able to purchase Hamoud Boualem a popular Algerian soda from some stores. Others mentioned that they are able to find Zlabia (Pastery), and Bourak(Rolls).

The common point of view of most members is that there is a lack of (Ambiance) mood or atmosphere. Work hours in the US remain the same for Algerians in the US, therefore they really do not enjoy the holy month the way they would enjoy it back home.
