"Choreographic revelation of the year" 2008
- Awarded by the French professional critique's union for theater, music and dance
French-based Algerian choreographer Nacera Belaza makes her U.S. debut at Danspace Project, in association with the French Institute Alliance Française's Crossing the Line 2009 festival. Belaza came to performance after studying literature and film, both of which inform her work. Performed with her sister Dalila Belaza, Le Cri explores spirituality through minimal movement juxtaposed against a range of music including Maria Callas, Amy Winehouse and traditional instrumental music.
Le Cri includes lighting design by Éric Soyer, and sound design by Nicolas Perrin.

Le Cri is funded in part by FUSED: French U.S. Exchange in Dance, a program of the National Dance Project/New England Foundation for the Arts and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York with lead funding from Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the French American Cultural Exchange and the Florence Gould Foundation.
