| The 27th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations Groups draw was held in Luanda on Friday November 20th 2009, with the opening match on January 10 to be between hosts Angola and Mali. |

Group A sees the Angolans drawn with Mali, Malawi and 2010 World Cup qualifiers Algeria, while Group B pits Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo and Burkina Faso in what is is an extremely tough pool to call.
Cameroon and Gabon were once again paired together in a repeat of World Cup qualifying in Group D, as they were paired with Zambia and Tunisia.
Angola will see the Algerians as the major competition in Group A, though Mali have an array of talent and a good record in Nations Cups when they do qualify and could be very tough. Malawi, playing just their second finals, will be hoping to move further in the tournament.
Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) will be favourites in Group B along with Ghana, but Togo have a world-class predator in Emmanuel Adebayor and Burkina Faso showed in qualifying they will be no pushovers.
Egypt and Nigeria look heavy favourites in Group C, though Mozambique will draw confidence from two good performances against the Super Eagles in qualifying, while Benin are a potential banana-skin.
Cameroon and Tunisia look most likely in Group D, but Zambia are an organised unit and Gabon showed, especially early on in qualifying, that they can grind out results against bigger nations.
The teams play each other once in a round-robin format, with the top two teams in each pool advancing to the quarterfinals.
