The mother-of-two had been returning to Laayoune after accepting a human rights award in the US when she was stopped by the Moroccan authorities.

Moroccan offcials denied Aminatou Haidar her entry to the disputed territory, confiscating her passport on the grounds that she had rejected her Moroccan nationality.

"This is a triumph for international law, for human rights, for international justice and for the cause" of the Western Sahara, Aminatou Haidar told reporters before boarding a plane home. "The first thing I will do when I get to my house will be to kiss my mother and my children."

Haidar flew back to Laayoune, the main town in Western Sahara, on a special Spanish military plane equipped with medical equipment because of her fragile health.

A spokesman for the Saharan independence movement, Carmelo Ramirez, said Haidar's return was a victory for her cause and had been made with no concessions to Morocco.

"She is returning without conditions having been placed and without apologizing," he said.

Haidar who is president of the Collective Of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA) was awarded the 2006 Juan Maria Bandres Human Rights Award (Spain) the 2007 Silver Rose Award (Austria) the 2008 Robert F Kennedy Human Rights Award (United States) and nominated for the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize, has understandably been a torn in the flesh of imperial Morocco for her unrelenting but peaceful campaign for the right of the Sahrawi people to self determination in accordance with the United Nations (UN) Resolution 1514 of 1960.

Courageous Haidar, in a video message played at the 35th European Conference of Coordination And Support To The Sahrawi People (EUCOCO) in Barcelona said " My situation is yet another example of the will of the Sahara people to continue the struggle until we achieve our goal...My fight is not just for my two sons; it is a fight for all Saharawi children so that they can live free and in happiness.

My hunger strike is a clear reflection of the will of the Saharawi people especially the women who have played a leading role since 1970. Yes I am weak physically but not morally."

"Morocco gave in to the pressure in Spain, Europe and the United States. It accepted her return after they pushed themselves in a corner by stressing they would not let her back," said Ali Anzoula, an editor of the daily Al Jarida al Oula.

Anzoula, who writes about the Western Sahara conflict, said the Polisario Front may seek to win more concessions from Rabat in future rounds of U.S. sponsored peace talks, such as a U.N. role in monitoring human rights issue in the territory.

"The Spanish government has handled this crisis badly, but much worse has been the behaviour of the regime in Rabat which caused the problem by violating her human rights," said the right-leaning Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

Taoufik Bouachrine, editor of Morocco's leading Akhbar al Youm al Maghribia daily, said the hunger strike "stained" Morocco's human rights image abroad.

"Her return is a great victory and by her coming back she had defeated Morocco's campaign to prevent her from living in her homeland," said Mohamed Moutawakeel, a member of the Sahrawi rights group Codesa which is chaired by Haidar.

where were Aminatou and there supporters???????????????????????????????
I think this clown lady and there friends should believe in there religion and their country ho is Morocco,it's a very big shame on them to believe in our ennemy Algeria;I have a small question:where were all of those people when Moroccain Sahara was occupied by spain;why do not they fight against it?where were Aminatou,Mohamed ould Abdelaziz,Algeria and the others when Morocco was fighting to free Sahara? Why Algeria does not do the same for Palistine.I think that everybody knows that Algeria is not interested by (sahraoui people) freedom but only an accees to the Atlantic sea by Moroccain Sahara, but they can dream.I think that Algerian goverenement has to take care of his population because they are in need of it.

Amianatou returns with her dignity in tact. Now for the long awaited referendum!
The International Court of Justice clearly stated that Western Sahara was not a province of Morocco, but a country in its own right whose destiny should be determined by the Saharawi. It is time that Africa's last colony was set free!

Stay in your country and love it, but let the other people do the same.
The lady loves her country: Western Sahara as well, and she wants to leave in it free as well. Moroccans prevent these people from sharing that feeling for their land. you may be able to see that if you can take a moment and think clear without the brain washing, or may be get away from too much Moroccan Hashish...

Thanks to Morocco for his generosity to allow Aminatou come back to Morocco
Aminatou won her fight to come back to morocco.... poor woman....but lost her bet to make the international community be more favorable to an independant western sahara....as France and US reiterates their support for the large autonomy of a Moroccan sahara....
